Student Testimonial
Just North of East Highschool in Des Moines Iowa one can find Lifesong Church of the Open Bible. On Sundays, their congregation gathers for their weekly worship service at 10:30 AM. Their service opens with a mix of prayer and music. Around 11:00, children 18 months to twelve years old peel off from the group and go to Children’s Sunday School.
This local family-oriented church was founded by Pastor Mike Rasavanh and his spouse Dara in the nineties. The church was originally called the Asian Church of the Open Bible and was rebranded Lifesong Church of the Open bible in the mid-2000s. The congregation wanted to ensure the public knew that they welcomed everyone. “Not just those of Asian descent.”
Pastor Mike and Dara were congregants of First Church of the Open Bible in Des Moines before they “planted” their new church at 1300 Buchanan Street. Although Pastor Mike is now retired and the church has new leadership, they have stayed true to their roots. This church believes the holy Bible is the word of God and that it is infallible. They recognize that God is three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and that every Christian should live in fellowship with the Holy Spirit every day. They have a comprehensive rundown of their core beliefs and theology on their website if you’re curious. If you want to dive in, reach out to them or perhaps join them this Sunday.
