Student Testimonial

The Swahili Baptist Church, established in Des Moines, Iowa, stands as a testament to the unifying power of faith. Founded in 2014 by Pastor Faustin Alobo, the church offers a spiritual home for Swahili-speaking refugees, immigrants, and African Americans, fostering a welcoming environment through worship services conducted in Swahili with English translation available. The Swahili Baptist Church carries a large vision. It aspires to plant churches not only within Iowa but across the United States and beyond, catering to Swahili-speaking communities worldwide. This vision extends beyond geographical borders, aiming to reach the “unreached” with the message of hope and compassion found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church’s mission is multifaceted. First and foremost, it seeks to spread the Gospel, reaching those who haven’t yet encountered the teachings of Jesus Christ. Following this initial outreach, the church focuses on nurturing its congregation. Through discipleship and education, they equip members with the tools needed to become active followers of Christ. Finally, the Swahili Baptist Church empowers its members to share the Gospel and demonstrate compassion towards those in need. Pastor Alobo’s journey of faith serves as a powerful inspiration for the church community. Fleeing the violence of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2003, he arrived at a refugee camp in Malawi. There, he planted a church named Eden Church Malawi and launched a ministry organization. After nearly a decade, Pastor Alobo and his family were presented with the opportunity to immigrate to the United States. Answering a calling, he eventually settled in Des Moines, Iowa, where he felt compelled to establish a Swahili-speaking church just eleven months later. In 2019, a visit back to his homeland reignited a vision to further spread God’s love, leading to the establishment of the God’s Love House of Hope, a Christian charity organization. The Swahili Baptist Church fosters a vibrant community through various gatherings. Sunday worship services, held from 10:30 am to 1:45 pm, offer a central space for spiritual connection and reflection. For those seeking deeper study, a Bible School Institute is available on Sundays from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Additionally, the church fosters artistic expression through choir practices held on Saturdays and Fridays. Located at the Freedom For Youth Ministries Chapel at 2301 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310, the Swahili Baptist Church extends a warm welcome to all seeking a spiritual home in the Swahili language or simply a place to connect with a diverse and welcoming faith community.
